Local Spotlight: Green Building Grows

On November 8th and 9th, citizens across the Gulf South will come together for two days of education and dialogue on current and future new building initiatives, and how our community can best address it at the Doubletree Hotel, 16th Floor, 300 Canal Street in New Orleans from 9:30 am – 6:30 pm, Sunday, November 8th and 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday, November 9th.

Sierra Club Marks Katrina Anniversary with Green Report

The New Orleans Green Building Assessment researchers Kristin McKee and Shawn Dillard from Monterey, California spent three weeks in New Orleans in January 2009 working with the Sierra Club to develop a plan for conducting a green building assessment. With advisement from Darryl Malek-Wiley, the Environmental Justice Organizer for the New Orleans office, the researchers began scoping the green building environment and conducting informal interviews with various green building organizations and stakeholders throughout the city of New Orleans.

Report confirms Helluva Job FEMA put US at risk

Cause for question: FEMA management recovery efforts in New Orleans have reached only 20% of the full recovery estimated completion date of September, 2009. Areas in Florida and Mississippi, according to the same FEMA source, will reach their 100% completion by the same date, on plan.
