Local Spotlight: Green Economy, Green Jobs Fair

On the heels of President Obama’s Town Hall meeting last week at UNO, Live Green New Orleans applauds another first from Global Green USA: the 1st Annual Student Green Jobs/Career Fair for New Orleans Public High School students. The Green Jobs Fair will host four hour-long sessions featuring 23 career topics with local speakers discussing their specific careers and why they chose that particular path. Global Green will also provide free breakfast and lunch for attendees who register by Friday, October 23rd at 12noon.

President Obama Tours Global Green USA Green Seed School in Lower 9th Ward

“It is great to see President Obama in New Orleans today, a city that still needs much help to recover after Hurricane Katrina,” commented Matt Petersen, President/CEO of Global Green USA. “The Big Easy is a place where the campaign promises and Presidential commitments for economic recovery, green jobs, and fighting climate change can all come together. We look forward to seeing dramatic improvements on all fronts by the time of President Obama’s next visit.”

Sierra Club Marks Katrina Anniversary with Green Report

The New Orleans Green Building Assessment researchers Kristin McKee and Shawn Dillard from Monterey, California spent three weeks in New Orleans in January 2009 working with the Sierra Club to develop a plan for conducting a green building assessment. With advisement from Darryl Malek-Wiley, the Environmental Justice Organizer for the New Orleans office, the researchers began scoping the green building environment and conducting informal interviews with various green building organizations and stakeholders throughout the city of New Orleans.
