Louisiana’s 17 oil refineries’ spills released millions of toxic chemicals into the air

The release of toxic chemicals causes health issues for the surrounding community, including respiratory problems, bronchitis, heart problems, and breathing problems. Lower 9th Seniors: Stories of Growing up in Nature

Bayou Stories is organized by the America’s WETLAND Conservation Corps, a program of Louisiana State University and the America’s WETLAND Foundation, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Charter School. Its purpose is to educate the public about wetlands loss, and recreate the personal relationship that we once had with our ecosystem. It will bring the community together for an evening of storytelling.

Drill, Baby, Drill: Progress or Regress?

The controversy over offshore drilling reached new levels during the 2008 presidential elections, with Sarah Palin popularizing the phrase, “drill, baby, drill!” Now, BP has discovered an oil well in the Gulf of Mexico that reaches over 30,000 feet into the earth and holds between 4 and 6 billions barrels of oil. Assuming that this can all actually be extracted, the so-called Tiber well can supply the oil needs of the United States for one year (only one?!).
