St. Bernard Project (SBP) has decided to commemorate the 5th anniversary with special events that will reinvigorate its efforts and renew its commitment to its mission as well as the people of New Orleans. SBP will be focusing its efforts in the Lower 9th Ward by completing 5 homes in 5 days, but will also draw attention to St. Bernard Parish by running 24-hour builds on three local homes. SBP invites, encourages, and urges all supporters of the project and the rebuilding of New Orleans to join us for these events.

BP's carelessness has dealt a serious blow to the Gulf Coast's economy, leaving thousands in the fishing and tourism industries out of work. Fishing and shrimping boats are now all either docked or in service to BP to clean up its mess. The spill has affected an estimated 13,000 commercial licensed fishermen in Louisiana, not including deckhands and crew, according to the Louisiana State Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Roughly one year ago (June 14th), forty-five of New Orleans top chefs rallied on behalf of Executive Chef Matt Murphy of The Ritz-Carlton and his family to create the “Chefs for Chef Matt Murphy” fundraising benefit. Now, Murphy is organizing the chefs, restaurateurs and local companies that came to his aid while he was in a coma to create the “Chefs for Fishermen and Families” event on Saturday, June 19th from 12.30-2.30p at Bridge Side Marina in Grand Isle, Louisiana. What a great early Father's Day present!
