Judge Blocks 6-Month Moratorium on Offshore Drilling

BP’s carelessness has dealt a serious blow to the Gulf Coast’s economy, leaving thousands in the fishing and tourism industries out of work. Fishing and shrimping boats are now all either docked or in service to BP to clean up its mess. The spill has affected an estimated 13,000 commercial licensed fishermen in Louisiana, not including deckhands and crew, according to the Louisiana State Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

New Orleans Chefs cookin’ up a Grand Isle Father’s Day

Roughly one year ago (June 14th), forty-five of New Orleans top chefs rallied on behalf of Executive Chef Matt Murphy of The Ritz-Carlton and his family to create the “Chefs for Chef Matt Murphy” fundraising benefit. Now, Murphy is organizing the chefs, restaurateurs and local companies that came to his aid while he was in a coma to create the “Chefs for Fishermen and Families” event on Saturday, June 19th from 12.30-2.30p at Bridge Side Marina in Grand Isle, Louisiana. What a great early Father’s Day present!

Gulf Aid Art puts Artists in Action

For GULF AID ART, each artist was challenged to create a new print edition with the only criteria that they respond / react to the current crisis affecting their home, health, happiness and economic futures. Each artist has created a limited edition print of 10 that will be sold both in the gallery during the limited run exhibition and online via the gallery’s website. In an effort to make the work accessible to the general public and raise as much money as possible, the prices of the works will range between $100 and $500 with the potential to raise $80,000.
