LOCAL OPINION: Pedicabs Junction
Perhaps it is the eco-traveler inside us who see pedicabs as a wonderfully funky, green alternative to getting around town during festival seasons. Needless to say, when Dana Eness with Stay Local/Urban Conservancy shared this request, we latched on to her idea of groovy progressiveness, and would like to invite all of you to help PJ’s Bike Taxi efforts on July 22 @ 2 pm in City Council chambers. Here’s the back-story from PJ:
July 12th, 2010Turtle Taxi tried to start this business about 10 years ago (maybe even longer) and was shut down by Morial. This is my 4th time in front of the Council but I truly believe that this is going to be the vote that will get me out of committee. At the last meeting over 50 carriage drivers and cabbies came out and spoke for 2 minutes each and ran the meeting over the scheduled time limit so we got pushed back, It was like 90% of speakers were agaisnt us. But 100% of them were connected to one of those previously mentioned industries.
Cm. Gisleon Palmer though sees the value in these and wants it to go through but its hard for her to vote for it when the only people who show up to talk are against it. So hopefully this time we will get a much more pro-pedicab crowd to even out the speakers a little bit.
I truly appreciate your help! Your the best! Feel free to pass the word along about the meeting.
Thanks,
PJ
