Diamond’s In the Rough Can Shape Up
Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer. Are you ready? If the answer is NO, then ask yourself, why not? We’ve asked Julie Diamond, Santa Monica, California-based personal fitness trainer to Zooey and Emily Deschanel, athletes, musicians, film producers and directors, to give us some tips on how to get fit, stay healthy and live green. Her clients receive customized work-outs and personalized nutritional counseling because she believes the key to fitness is a healthy lifestyle. Exercise + Nutrition + Discipline = Health.
LGNO: You’ve been a personal fitness trainer for over ten years, so I’m sure you’ve seen and heard it all. We are heading into June: no doubt thousands of people are freaking out, trying to find that instant way to get beach ready. What would you tell them?
JD: Regardless of what size you are, or what size you think you should be, the bottom line (no pun intended) is health. “Fitness and Nutrition” is just like brushing your teeth; shift your paradigm and both will become a daily habit. Be sure to “brush” you body daily: take a hike, walk to lunch, park at the end of the lot or on the upper floor of the garage, take the stairs instead of elevator or escalator, heck, even dance naked in your living room!
LGNO: Everyone should dance naked in their living room. In fact, we think the neighbors are doing that now.
JD: Our bodies are made to move, not sit. Now, that doesn’t have to mean going overboard — it means “balance.”
LGNO: Everything in moderation?
JD: Eating healthy 95% of the time ~ walk to and shop the farmer’s markets for fresh, organic produce each week. Fruits and veggies are not only good for you, they are also refreshing when the temperature climbs. Drink plenty of water, especially when it is hot outside, or whenever you are in the sun for an extended period of time. Remember: water, water, water, just like you would the garden.
LGNO: And that other 5%?
JD: The other 5% is for un-adulterated, guilt-free pleasure off the dessert menu!
LGNO: We do love our desserts here…
