Local Spotlight: Hollygrove Market & Farm
Have you ever noticed while you’re out making groceries how markets likes to post LOCAL PRODUCE signs all around and yet everything available to choose from is marked from Chile or Mexico? One big box store went to the trouble of posting photos of a local citrus farm with a sign posted that read: FEATURED LOCAL FARM. When asked where the citrus was on the floor, an employee told us they never had anything from that farm in stock, and then quickly took the sign away.
If you have ever considered growing your own garden, then here’s an idea you should check out: the Hollygrove Market & Farm. Located on an acre in the heart of the Carrollton-Hollygrove community, this community-owned, non-profit store and training farm sells locally grown and organic produce, and incorporates environmentally-sustainable features like organic gardening, composting, cistern irrigation, and recycling.
The fresh produce at Hollygrove is purchased from local backyard growers, community gardens, urban micro-farmers all over New Orleans, and rural farmers throughout southern Louisiana and Mississippi. Through a partnership with the nonprofit New Orleans Food & Farm Network and the Mater Gardeners of Greater New Orleans fruit and vegetables.

And mark your calendar for the grand opening of New Orleans 1st Community Supported Agriculture Market, Jack & Jake’s, opening on Earhart behind the Rock’n Bowl mid-to-late Summer 2010!
