Krewe of Green: 2010 delivers!

Last year, I wondered how long it would take before all of the Krewes’ throws would become eco-friendly. Sure, Muses had the first RE-MUSEABLE bag throw (made in China), and while all the geaux cups are technically reuseable, they are still made from plastics that take thousands of years to break down. The street rumor is that REX, oh king of Mardi Gras, will be introducing biodegradable throw cups on Fat Tuesday. ALL HAIL REX! Leave it to the KING.

Sustainable Seafood: Geaux Fish

Louisiana cooking tends to involve fresh local seafood: gulf shrimp, crab, oysters, crawfish, catfish, redfish, and tilapia to name a few. Between The Bill H.R. 4022 Gulf Oyster Protection Act 2009 prohibiting requirements for the control of Vibrio vulnificus (a deadly bacteria in the same family as those that cause cholera), along with conflict of fresh gulf shrimp versus the economics of frozen, it may leave you wondering: just how safe is our seafood?
