Ecotravel 101: New Orleans Best Eco-hotels

The New Orleans hotel scene is finally turning green with the help of Faux De Lis, the design of entrepreneurs Collyn Martinez and David Friedlaender who are meeting a glaring need in the hospitality industry for walls that are more durable, green, cost effective to maintain, and aesthetically pleasing. Collyn and David combine innovative materials and techniques that result in unique, custom-designed wall finishes.

Mississippi Dredging: Hope for Wetlands

Sediment from the Mississippi River is of the utmost importance when considering ways to bolster the wetlands, as I’ve previously discussed in my blog. I mentioned a University of Texas study that showed diverting the Mississippi would allow swamps to regrow and thus redevelop the natural wetlands buffer that protects against hurricanes – all because additional sediment would be deposited into the delta region. However, it has recently become apparent that sediment already dredged from the Mississippi River isn’t being used to properly reinforce the wetlands.

Global Warming: what the hack, scientists?

The latest drama to hit the global warming community is over a set of published emails hacked from the Climate Research Unit at East Anglia University in the United Kingdom (see photo, courtesy of the AP). These emails show questionable conduct among members of the scientific community who believe that human activities have contributed to global warming.

Local Opinion: Cao’s Vote for Health Care May Improve His Political Viability at Home

New Orleans’ District 2 had been a Democratic stronghold since 1890. The downfall of Representative William Jefferson, as it played out nationally during his re-election campaign, created an opening for a Republican.
