Vampires 101: Old vs New

In a city like New Orleans, where vampire sightings are an every night occurrence, it seemed appropriate to test your knowledge of the Old School v. New School in vampire mythology. Don’t be shy, leave your mark at the end.

Old School:

Lestat de Lioncourt: 249 yrs old, give or take. Brought to life by Tom Cruise in the Ann Rice bestseller, Interview with the Vampire (1994).  Lestat prefers to nest in New Orleans, with his love interest Louis (Brad Pitt), feeding on the children of the plague and society folk. Creepy quote: “Evil is a point of view.”

Count Dracula: 500+ yrs old and brought to life on multiple occasions, most memorably of late by Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992). Dracula prefers Transylvania, but will travel the distance to capture the affections of his love interest, Mina (Wynona Rider). Creepy quote: “I…am…Dracula!”

New School:

Edward Cullen: 108 yrs old, give or take, with every teenage girl swooning over Twilight (2008) and the New Moon (2009). Giving the North Pacific something other than Grunge to put in its cap, Edward hangs around Forks, Washington jonesing for his love interest, Bella.  Creepy quote: “I hate you for making me want you so much.”

Bill Compton: 173 yrs old and drinking down the True Blood (HBO) in traditional Bon Temps, Louisiana. If you caught the season finale earlier this month, your eyes are no doubt growing dark with anticipation for the next season. Handsome Bill’s love interest is the white-linen bearing, magnolia fresh Sookie, who still loves him even after his creepy quote: “I killed a few by accident at first.”

The thing about vampires is, like a good story, they never die. Happy Halloween!
