Birds Do It: Little Green Houses

French Quarter artists and gallery owners David Harouni and Amzie Adams are each painting a large purple martin birdhouse, provided by Parkway Partners, in their own original and eclectic style. These birdhouses will be auctioned online and onsite at Feast With the Stars to fund Parkway Partners ongoing efforts to restore the urban canopy and educate and empower community gardeners.

Getting Solar: It’s Time

Why not start with a solar collector ~ a thermal system for heating water. For about $4,000-6,000, a project will pay for itself in about four years. Scaled down a bit, this type of collector is also popular for warming swimming pools. It’s a whole different system than PV panels and can be up and running installed in a single day.

Local Opinion: Clean Air Act

If the Murkowski amendment passes, Congress will be denied ordinary process. The amendment end runs Congress’ regular order. Congress should not make policy decisions of such immense importance for the public health and welfare by rashly attaching a rider to a must-pass spending bill. If Congress wishes to consider whether EPA should regulate greenhouse gases and from what sources, it should do so deliberately in the context of comprehensive climate legislation.
